Scary Story 2003~
The Depths of Lake Thunder
By Stevenlee3000
There is a lake back where I'm from
in Illinois called Lake Thunder. On a bright warm sunny afternoon
me and a buddy were fishing from an inflatable boat in the middle
of it (yes we were kids). We were joking and having a good old time
drinking soda and fishing when my buddy hooked the boat. The hole
was not serious but it was enough for our little raft to take on
water to our ankles. The water in the boat turned over the can of
worms so it was very messy with worms and dirt all over the boat.
We thought it was funny. At that point in time we had the bright
idea of turning the boat over in the middle of the lake so that
the worms and dirt would fall out. It was a hoot... we dumped our
trash on a nearby shore then paddled back to the middle of the lake
where we proceeded to flipped over our raft..being sure to secure
our poles in ways only a 13 year old can think of.
Me and my friend sat happily laughing
in the middle of Lake Thunder on a capsized raft allowing the worms
and to sink to the bottom of the lake when my buddy became early
silent. Then out of the silence he cried out "OH MY GOD"!
In the confusion I asked him what was wrong and he then continued
to say that he had just lost grip of my fishing pole and that is
was falling. The laughing stopped, and without hesitation I submerged
myself and began to swim desperately towards the bottom to retrieve
the brand new gill tracker 2000 I had saved up for. I kicked and
paddled furiously downward with complete disregard to anything other
then retrieving the prized pole. I have always been a good swimmer
and that time was no exception. I was sinking quickly after the
pole when the water turned from clear to a murky brown. The murky
water became darker as I sank deeper. The water turned black with
deepness.
In the dark depths of the water,
completely blind, I felt a long slippery trunk like "thing"
of a creature pass over my leg. I turned around in a panic, near
out of breath, and tried to swim up in the dark waters when I realized
I couldn't tell which way was up. In pure panic I swam in the only
direction I could. Swimming in utter panic of suffocation I felt
something licking and wrapping around my bare feet. I kicked and
thrashed to get it away from me as I struggled to find the surface.
Finally the black turned into a
beautiful murky brown. And the brown turned into clear water and
I broke the surface. With my my first gasp of air I cried out a
shriek of help. 100 feet away floated the derelict raft. The raft
slowly came to me.
