The Devil's Nine Questions

This riddle song goes back to the 1300's, when riddles played an important role.
Clever folks thought they could outwit the devil with a tough riddle or a quick answer. 'Neck riddles' gave the condemned person a chance to escape the gibbet.

We show a nodding acqaintance with that when we hear this...something we've all heard...
"I couldn't think of an answer to save my life!"

Here are the words to the song, 'The Devil's Nine Questions':

If you don't answer my questions nine,
I'll take you off to hell alive,
And you are the weavers bonny.

What is whiter than milk?
And what is softer than the silk?
Yay you're the weavers bonny.

Snow is whiter than the milk,
And down is softer than the silk.
And I'm the weavers bonny.

What is louder than a horn?
And what is sharper than a thorn?
Sing, I am the weavers bonny.

Thunder's louder than a horn,
And death is sharper than a thorn.
And I'm the weavers bonny.

What is higher than a tree?
And what is deeper than the sea?
Say you are the weavers bonny.

Heaven's higher than a tree,
And hell is deeper than the sea.
And I'm the weavers bonny.

What is more innocent than a lamb?
And what is worse than womankind?
Say you're the weavers bonny.

A babe is more innocent than a lamb,
A she-devil is worse than womankind.
And I'm the weavers bonny.

Now you have answered my questions,
You are God's child and not my own,
And you're the weavers bonny.
